Recently, I was introduced by a friend to the world of fanfiction. Yes, the world of fanfiction. I was skeptical at first, thinking of all the lame stories with OOCness(out of character-ness), absolutely unbelievable AU(alternate universes), unbelievable powers and easily defeated enemies and, horror of horrors, desperate writers who write OCs (own charcters) or sometimes even original characters that are lightly disguised as themselves in order to live out their fantasies in the fandom(original fiction).

Well, obviously, I was wrong. Though there were admittedly works of the sort I dreaded, I also found some wonderful works from writers who surpass mediocre published authors. Works that wove themselves into the fandom, characters that fit perfectly into the fandom and established characters, and, my personal favorite, well written pieces that developed the characters of original characters, yet was perfectly believable and coherent. There were many pieces of writing that echoed the author’s interests that were blended with the fandom. Sometimes, when pieces of writing were found where the author’s passion for the subject matter comes across so clearly that it inspires the reader to try what they describe. This is, for me, is the best form of emotive writing, and I have found such gems in fanfiction.

These pieces of work take on the form of drabbles, oneshots, twoshots and chaptered fics.
Drabbles consist of tiny snippets or scenes set in the fandom, with a word count of exactly 100 but are sometimes misused to indicate a short story of under 1000 words. Oneshots are stories that are only one chapter long and, twoshots are two. Chaptered fics are whole stories that take on the form of novels with an unlimited number of chapters. They are sometimes standalone pieces or part of a series where the pieces make reference to events in one another.

Best of all, I found a close group of writers who offered support and practical criticism for their fellow fanfiction authors. Collaborations are common, and good-natured and productive criticism plentiful. In addition, some authors undertake to write about events another author has written about from another point of view, making for an intriguing insight to the mindset of the characters they portray.

Thus my new obsession: fanfiction. Not only does it allow me to get more of my current interests, (how many times can we re-read a single book after all?) it also lets me beautiful pieces of writing that have me sighing in contentment. Admittedly, some may find it “gross” or “geekish”, but it’s a place where people of similar interests get together and share their insights into the story. For me, it is a world where you can choose your own endings, your own situation, and, where, if it pleases you, where you can establish your version of what-should-have-been.

In the age of mordern, entertainment comes in so many forms.
from the TV to newspapers to books of all types to the internet.
of the four, i have to admit that i consider the internet best, despite my undying passion for books(:

everything that can be found in the other 3 mediums can be found on the internet, and in greater variety and quality.

what i really really love about the internet though, is that anyone can put anything on it.
and that's where i found There She is.

There She is a flash cartoon series created by a korean team of 3, SamBakZa.
At the 2004 Anima Mundi animation festival in Brazil, this video won first place in both the Web Animation - Professional Jury and Web Animation - Audience divisions, as well as winning the Special Award Anima Mundi Web.
Its soundtrack is the Korean pop song "There she is" (떳다! 그녀!!) by Witches (위치스).

to be honest, the technical aspects escape me.
what catches my heart though, is the way the animation is presented.

what really endears the rabbit to the audience is how the rabbit chases after the cat and manages to appear everywhere he runs!
her peseverance and the utter extremeness! of her reactions adds comedy to the flash.
we laugh at the poor cat's predicament and sigh at the extent that the rabbit is willing to go to.

my favourite scene is how the animators manage to let a solid colour screen take on 3D dimensions(:
they use a simple screen and the vibrance of the characters makes the flash a much more appealing one.

A wonderful flash animation that is best for rainy days and insufficient time.
This has all the impact of a movie crammed within a 3 and a half minute time frame.

an introduction

an introduction for the purpose of this blog should be made clear.

this blog is a part of SAJC's bloggers' club(c) (name pending)
and will thus be home to my thoughts and musings on themes set by bloggers' club.
as a member of this prestigious co-curricular activity, there are some rules that i, as well as every member should abide by.

firstly, and most importantly, to refrain from any negative comments on sensitive subjects (eg, race, religion)

secondly, the use of foul language is not allowed. AT ALL.
that also means no substitution of words for other words that you want. (eg, fish, frog)
do not decapitate these innocent words.
(while singlish/improper English is not foul language, it is strongly discouraged unless they are there specifically to prove a point or as a quote)

thirdly, to post relevantly and intelligently according to the freestyle theme that you have decided yourself and the committee has approved, or the theme that has been set. (there is a minimum of once per week and a word limit that has not been decided at the time of this post)

what are the requirements to join bloggers' club?

good language/writing skills?
nope! of course, a basic proficiency in the English language is expected, but if you are more comfortable in, and wish to post in, another language, we welcome you. (though we need editors then!)
beautiful writing is not necessary. this is a BLOG, for purposes of SELF-EXPRESSION and your writing style doesn't really matter. what really matters is a good attitude and willingness to learn(:

a blog?
well, duh.
it;s not called bloggers' club for nothing.
there is a school blog as well as an individual blog where you will be expected to post according to themes assigned.
outstanding articles will be chosen every week and placed on the school blog.

with reference to the types of posting, there is
1)freestyle.
you get to choose your own theme/set of themes based on your own interests.
submit your proposal to the committee and they will decide if this is appropriate/acceptable.
the decisions made by the committee is final.
but you can ask why it was rejected and how it cam be improved(:

2) thematic.
the Vice-president and editor-in-chief of bloggers' club will set themes for the month/week(undecided) and, if you do not have an accepted freestyle theme, you are expected to post something with pertinence to the theme.
it can be a general commentary, a short story, a news-related thing, poem, whatever.
let your creative juices flow!

and, if you want to post more than once a week, GO AHEAD. and it doesn't even have to be according to the theme!

of course, no matter what you're doing, all posts will be edited by the editorial committee.
spelling, grammar, appropriateness of tone and language etc, as well content will be edited.
that does NOT mean that you need not check your posts (that's what Microsoft word's spell check is for).
